The Optimization List

From Overview

The Portfolio Optimization List allows you to view, open, create, and delete Portfolio Optimizations.

This form displays a list of saved results of portfolio optimizations. The names of the saved optimization results are displayed in the list. The Portfolio Optimization List form displays the name of the optimization, the optimized parameter (SMART score or other maximized attribute) as well as the highest portfolio value that met the constraints. It also displays type of optimization used and the set and final actual results for each genetic optimization parameter (maximum number of parents, maximum number of generations, repeats Indicating Convergence, and mutations).

Click the [Show Optims.] button to display the Optimization List at the bottom of the Portfolio form, below the data listbox. Click the same button to hide the Optimization List.

Creating a New Optimization

  1. Open the portfolio and click on [Show Optims.] button to display the Optimization List.
  2. Click [New Optimization] to open the Optsee Optimizer™.
  3. Enter you parameters and click [Optimize].

Deleting an Optimization

  1. Open the portfolio and click on [Show Optims.] button to display the Optimization List.
  2. Click the optimization row that you want to delete.
  3. Click [Delete Optimization] to delete that optimization. This cannot be undone.

The Optimization List:

This list displays the list of the saved optimization result names and associated parameters. When you select a row and click [Open Optimization] (or double-click on a row), the selected saved optimization results are displayed in the Optsee Optimizer™ Saved Results Form.

Clicking in the "Base" or "Last" column causes the results of the optimization to be displayed in the "Base" or "Last" columns, respectively, in the Portfolio List.

The Optimization List Columns:

Mod. column: This column indicates by displaying a red "X" if the optimization in the row has been modified and therefore may possibly be invalid. For more information regarding modifications affecting saved optimizations, see The Modify Saved Optimizations Confirmation Form.

Optimization Name column: This column displays the name assigned to the respective optimization parameter set. The "Base" optimization has an "*" in front of the name indicating that this is the optimization displayed in the "Base" column of the Portfolio Form.

Optimized Parameter column: This column displays the name of the attribute that the portfolio was optimized to maximize. These display-only fields show the highest and lowest portfolio values for the final generation of portfolios. The highest portfolio value is the value of the Overall Value or attribute of the final optimized portfolio. The lowest value is the lowest value of a portfolio that also meets the constraint criteria.

Result column: This column displays the highest value realized for the optimization. The highest portfolio value is the value of the SMART Score value or attribute value of the final optimized portfolio.

EF Used column: This column indicates whether the portfolio was optimized using the "Efficient Frontier" ratio of overall value to the optimized attribute or only the attribute value itself. See The Optsee Optimizer™ Form for more detail on this setting.

Type column: This column displays the type of optimization performed: "Branch and Bound"("B and B"), "Genetic" or "Brute Force" ("BF").

No. of Parents Set or Starting Value column: This column displays the maximum number of parents that could be created in the first generation for a Genetic Optimizer.

Parents Setcolumn: This column displays the set number of parents that specified for the first generation

Parents Actualcolumn: This column displays the actual number of parents that were created in the first generation for a Genetic Optimizer. The optimizer tries to make as many parent portfolios as it can up to the maximum value; however, it may not be able to make the maximum (set) number due to being unable to find enough portfolios that meet the applied constraints.

Generations Setcolumn: This column displays the maximum number of generations (including the parent generation) that could be created during the optimization process for a Genetic Optimizer.

Generations Actual column: This column displays the actual number of generations (including the parent generation) that were created during the optimization process for a Genetic Optimizer. If this value is less than the Set value, it indicates that the specified number of "Repeats Indicating Convergence" was reached.

Repeats Set column: This column displays the maximum number of consecutive generations that could be created that have an identical optimized attribute maximum value. Thus, when three or more generations have repeated the same optimized attribute maximum value, the optimization process has converged on an optimal value for that portfolio and the process will cease.

Repeats Actual column: This column displays the actual number of consecutive generations that were created that have an identical optimized maximum value.

Mutations column: This column displays the set percentage of mutations for that optimization for a Genetic Optimizer.
