The Portfolio Views List

Form Overview

The Portfolio Attribute List allows you to view, open, create, and delete Portfolio Views for the Portfolio.

Portfolio views are user-saved subsets of Projects that can be easily recalled in the portfolio list form by clicking on the name of the view in the Portfolio Views List form. When the name of a view is selected, the portfolio form and all open child charts associated with that portfolio are re-drawn to reflect the Projects in that view. Each portfolio view is assigned a color and pattern by the user using the New Portfolio View form. This color is displayed to represent the view in the Efficient Frontier form. This makes it easy to compare different portfolio views relative to the efficient frontiers.

Portfolio Views are created either manually by the user or automatically when a portfolio optimization is performed (if the [Save Optimization Result as Portfolio View] checkbox is selected on the Optsee Optimizer form). The Portfolio Views List Form displays the name of each Portfolio View as assigned by the user or corresponding to the optimization that created it. Other columns display the results of the simulation that was performed on the portfolio view, including the "Mean" (total portfolio value), the "Std. Dev." (standard deviation), "Max." (maximum achieved value), "Min." (minimum achieved value), and Median."

If the view was created using a portfolio that was not created by a prioritization simulation, then the standard deviation and median are set to zero "0." The mean, maximum, and minimum are based on the sums at the bottom of the respective value columns of the portfolio form.

Each portfolio view is assigned a color and pattern by the user using the New Portfolio View form. This color is displayed to represent the view in the Efficient Frontier form. This makes it easy to compare different portfolio views relative to the efficient frontiers.

Portfolio views are added by clicking the [Add View] button to open the Portfolio View Input form. The button is enabled when one or more projects have been selected (highlighted) in the Portfolio form. The view contains the projects selected at the time the view was saved.

Each time a Prioritization-Simulation is performed, all saved Portfolio Views are run in individual simulations to generate the simulation data for the subset of projects represented by that view.

Click the [Show Views] button to display the Portfolio Views List at the botom of the Portfolio form, below the data listbox. Click the same button to hide the Portfolio Views.

Creating a Portfolio View

  1. Open the portfolio and click on [Show Views] button to display the Portfolio Views List.
  2. Select the projects that you want to save in a view.
  3. Click the [New View] button. This will open the New Portfolio View form.
  4. Enter the name for the new view and select a color for the efficient frontier display.
  5. If you are creating a Portfolio View for a simulation-prioritized portfolio, select the number of simulations that you want to execute when creating the view. The number is based on a per-project basis, so if you have a subset of 10 projects and you select "100," the portfolio will be run in 1,000 (10*100) simulations.
  6. Click on [Save] to save the new view.

Portfolio View List Box

Clicking on a Portfolio View row automatically displays the subset of projects assigned to that view in the Portfolio list form above the Portfolio Views List.

Portfolio Views are not editable from inside this list box. Double-clicking on a row or selecting a row and clicking the [Open View] button will open the Portfolio View in the Portfolio View form.
